Acne is a very common condition affecting not just teenagers, but also children and adults. Medical treatments are available which can control almost all cases of acne. These medical treatments include prescription creams, and tablets. However, medications may not suit everyone for a variety of reasons. Examples are intolerance, and concerns with possible side effects. Laser and similar treatments can therefore be considered in these situations.
Photodynamic therapy, in combination with LED light, intense pulse light and laser, can significantly improve acne after a few sessions. Treatment is associated with redness, swelling, and discomfort, lasting several days before settling.
If acne is treated early, scarring can usually be minimised or prevented. Once scarring is present, laser therapy as well as other treatments can address this issue.
